After a five-year hiatus, one of South Africa’s most beloved bands, Freshlyground, announces their return to the music scene with new lead vocalist Mbali Makhoba.

Known for their distinctive fusion of African and contemporary styles, Freshlyground is embarking on an exciting new chapter. Mbali Makhoba brings her powerful, soulful voice and dynamic stage presence to the group, marking a significant evolution in the band’s celebrated journey.

Makhoba’s story embodies the spirit of modern South Africa. Growing up in Cape Town’s Imizamo Yethu township, she has overcome significant challenges to pursue her passion for music. Recently, she became the first person in her extended family to travel internationally, performing at the prestigious Lalela Foundation gala fundraiser in New York City.

Mbali’s deep connection to South African musical traditions and contemporary artistry perfectly aligns with Freshlyground’s vision. Her addition not only represents a musical evolution but also continues our commitment to sharing South Africa’s vibrant culture with audiences worldwide.
