If you previously had your hard drive inside your computer and want to now use it as an external, you may want to keep these things in mind. The hard drive may have previously had an operating system on it and your computer may still want to boot from that drive. to prevent this you can delete the boot partition on the drive.
Windows
- Click Start
- type "File"
- Right Click on the app called "File Manager"
- Click on Manage
- Under the section that says "Storage" click "Disc Management"
- You will see all the Hard Drives attached to your computer.
- Find the drive that you want to remove the partitions from
- Right Click on each partition and click "Delete Volume"
- Once you have deleted all the partitions Create a new partition in the Unallocated space
